Strengthening how families and trusted community professionals find and connect with maternal health resources.
An emerging maternal health initiative
EcoNest NJ is an emerging maternal health initiative working to strengthen how Black mothers find, navigate, and connect with trusted support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

The opportunity
Across New Jersey, healthcare professionals, doulas, community organizations, advocates, and public programs are already doing important work. Yet families can still encounter:

EcoNest is exploring how to strengthen the connections between what already exists and the families who need it.
What we’re exploring
Emerging areas of focus shaped by conversations across New Jersey’s maternal health ecosystem.
Strengthening how families and trusted community professionals find and connect with maternal health resources.
Developing practical tools and education that help Black mothers prepare for clinical conversations, ask questions, and make informed decisions.
Exploring stronger referral pathways and collaboration across community organizations, birth workers, healthcare systems, and public partners.
Current phase
EcoNest NJ is currently in its discovery and development phase. We’re speaking with maternal health professionals, advocates, community organizations, public health leaders, birth workers, and others across New Jersey to shape an approach that adds value to the existing maternal health ecosystem rather than duplicating it.
We’re currently inviting Black mothers, birth workers, maternal health professionals, advocates, and community partners to share their perspectives as part of our discovery process.
